Occurrence of Non -tuberculous Mycobacteria in Environmental Samples at Pilgrimage Sites

چکیده
Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) inhabit a wide variety of environmental including different water bodies, soil, aerosol, animals and humans. NTM are also known as environmental mycobacteria which can cause mycobacteriosis .Humans, animals and fresh water fauna are exposed to mycobacteria in water. HIV seronegative and immunocomprised patients are most vulnerable to acquire this opportunistic infection. The objective of this study was to identify and characterize the non tuberculous mycobacteria from soil & water bodies near pilgrimage spots where humans have increased access. The mycobacterial isolates were identified using phenotypic methods and 16S rRNA PCR and sequencing of hyper variable region which was proved to be less time consuming and cost effective method. In conclusion, the present study revealed the presence of NTM (32%) viz. M.intracellularae, M.shimoidei, M.terrae, M.aichense M.woliniski and M.fortuitum in the water samples collected from pilgrimage sites which can be potential pathogens.

A Review on Environmental Mycobacteria in Iran
Abstract Mycobacterium genus, including pathogenic and environmental species, is called non-tuberculosis mycobacteria. In this review, we assessed the research about the frequency of non-tuberculosis mycobacteria in Iran. The analyses showed that there are 16 and 28 mycobacterial species isolated in water and soil samples, respectively. The most frequent mycobacterial species in water were M. f...

Introduction: Non-tuberculous species of Mycobacterium are a large group of Mycobacterium and are widely distributed throughout the world. Increased isolation of non-tuberculous mycobacteria from patients with mycobacteria infections in Iranian laboratories was associated with erroneous and unnecessary drug treatment, so that in some cases isolated strains considered as drug resistant strains. ...

BACKGROUND Non- Tuberculous Mycobacteria are environmental opportunistic pathogens that can be found in various terrestrial and aquatic habitats. There are an epidemiological links between species isolated in tap water and those isolated from patients. hsp65 gene has more variability in its sequences, compared to the some more conserved genes in NTM, for identification of mycobacteria to specie...

Milk is widely consumed in Brazil and can be the vehicle of agent transmission. In this study, was evaluated the occurrence of Mycobacterium bovis and non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) in raw and pasteurized milk consumed in the northwestern region of Paraná, Brazil. Fifty-two milk samples (20 pasteurized and 32 raw) from dairy farms near the municipality of Maringa, Parana State, Brazil were ...
